The 2026 Steel Architectural Awards celebrates a vision of
“Shaping Resilient Futures: Timeless Design with Coated Steel.”
This year, we honor architecture that rises above passing trends. We invite a dialogue on the transformative power of steel, not merely as a structure, but as a medium for design that is resilient and enduring. We celebrate a built environment that is deeply responsive to sustainability and energy efficiency, where technical mastery meets a relevance that transcends time. Beyond the blueprint, we recognize how steel breathes life into a concept, elevating function, comfort, and the overall quality of space.
Building project submission criteria:
- Building projects must be fully completed and have been in full operation for at least one (1) year prior to the 2026 Steel Architectural Awards, or must be completed and fully operational no later than February 2026.
- Submitted projects must not have previously won or been selected as finalists in any previous Steel Architectural Awards.
Who are able to apply for the award :
- Any contributors to the building projects (e.g., architect, project owner, main contractor, roll former, etc.) with proper consent from the project owner and architects.
Who will get the award recognition :
- The architect firm of the winning project.
- The project owner company of the winning project.
- Main contractors and other stakeholders who played a critical role in delivering the winning design can be recognized at the award ceremony.

Design Excellence
Demonstration of a clear and cohesive architectural concept, thoughtfully translated into built form, with strong contextual responsiveness, versatility, and refined technical resolution.
Innovation
Functional and performance-oriented application of coated steel, highlighting technical excellence, precision detailing, and forward-thinking steel design solutions.
Sustainability
Integration of energy-efficient strategies, climate-responsive architecture approaches, and durable material performance to ensure long-term building lifecycle resilience

The Steel Architecture Awards is a celebration for steel architects in the ASEAN region, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand, in collaboration with NS BlueScope. This award aims to honor and share knowledge about steel architecture.
All parties involved in building projects, such as architects, project owners, main contractors, and others, can register as candidates, provided they have obtained valid approval from the project owner (building) and the architect themselves.
Winners involved, such as project company owners, main contractors, and other stakeholders, will be recognized during the awards ceremony.
It is a national architecture award in Indonesia, organized by IAI and BlueScope Indonesia, recognizing built projects that demonstrate strong design, innovation, and the use of steel and coated steel. The winners will represent Indonesia at the ASEAN level.
Licensed architects through an architectural firm.
The submitting architect must have:
– A valid STRA
– An active IAI Membership Card (KTA) valid until the end of 2026
Only built and fully operational buildings.
The project must:
– Been operational for at least 1 year, or
– Been completed and operational no later than February 2026
Yes. Participants may submit more than one project, as long as each project is registered and submitted separately.
Projects can be submitted under:
– Residential
– Industrial
– Commercial
– Institutional & Others
* Government buildings may be included in any relevant category.

The theme focuses on durability, sustainability, energy efficiency, and timeless architectural quality using steel and coated steel.
Projects are evaluated based on:
– Design Excellence (50%)
– Innovation (30%)
– Sustainability (20%)
The jury reviews design quality, technical execution, innovation in steel use, and long-term performance.
March 2026, together with the official launch of the awards.
The final deadline for registration and Stage I submission is:

Stage I requires:
– Two (2) A1 project panels (PDF)
– Project summary (A4)
– Architect and owner consent letters
– Required forms using the official templates
– Only submissions following the official format will be accepted.
Stage I results (shortlist / nomination) will be announced on:
Wednesday, 24 June 2026
Stage II submission deadline: Wednesday, 8 July 2026
Stage II jury session: Wednesday, 15 July 2026
Stage II includes live presentations and will be live-streamed.
Finalists announced: 12 August 2026
Award ceremony: 18 September 2026
Winners will receive:
– An official award trophy
– A learning trip to Thailand
– The opportunity to compete at the ASEAN Steel Architectural Awards
– Selected ASEAN winners may continue the learning trip to Australia
